Adoption Information
A party or parties must follow the Texas Family Code 162 if adopting in the State of Texas. The code sets out specific procedures regarding the adoption of a child or an adult.
You must pay the filing fee at the time of filing your petition with the District Clerk’s office. Please see our Fees section for more information. There may be extra costs incurred by ad litem fees or home studies. The adoption process is very technical, and the party must adhere to all procedures and laws set out in the Family Code and any other applicable laws/statutes. Please be advised the clerk cannot guide you through the process.
Forms
- When submitting your final order, complete the VS-160 form.
- If you cannot afford the fees, you may submit a Statement of Inability to Afford Court Cost (PDF) along with your petition.
