Travis County Parks plans to conduct a prescribed burn at Hamilton Pool Preserve between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. The prescribed burn will take approximately two hours to complete. Travis County Parks is conducting the burn in cooperation with Lake Travis Fire Rescue, Pedernales Fire Department, Austin Fire Department, and the Texas A&M Forest Service.

The prescribed burn is part of an ongoing restoration effort on a 30-acre prairie near the park entrance and will help maintain the grassland by removing invading shrubs, reducing the number of exotic species, and enhancing the health and diversity of the native plant community.

The fire is expected to be conducted with southerly winds, which will carry the smoke away from Hamilton Pool Road and across Reimers Ranch Park and other communities to the north. Due to the small size of the project and the distance between the prescribed burn and the adjacent communities, very little smoke should be visible and no impacts are expected.

Hamilton Pool Preserveis located at: 24300 Hamilton Pool Road, Dripping Springs, 78620.

Media note: Reporters are invited to observe the burn. If you plan to attend, please meet the public information officer or a representative at the gate to Hamilton Pool Preserve at 11:45 a.m.
