Flu Season in Travis County – Reminders of what you can do

The best way to protect yourself from the flu is with a flu vaccination. Children six months of age or older who are uninsured and adults who are uninsured or on Medicare can receive free flu shots at the City of Austin Public Health Department Immunization clinics, Shots for Tots/Big Shots. Other behaviors that will help stop the spread of the flu are:

  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Avoid touching your face - your mouth, nose, and eyes
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Avoid others who are sick
  • Cough or sneeze into your sleeve or into a tissue

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
