In November 2022, the Travis County Commissioners Court approved seven contract awards totaling $3,119,283 to help low-income families in Travis County get better access to healthy, fresh food.
Local organizations receiving these funds are using the money in various ways, including but not limited to enhancing their food delivery services, expanding pantry locations, or funding their food distribution programs.
The contract awards are funded through the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds Travis County received from the federal government through the American Rescue Plan Act.
El Buen Samaritano - $445,358

El Buen Samaritano serves families across Austin, including the Eastern Crescent, by operating drive-thru food distribution events.
Farmshare Austin - $416,816

Farmshare Austin plans to double its mobile markets and wants to increase its geographic reach.
Foundation Communities - $508,342

Foundation Communities runs food pantries at its properties. It plans to use the grant to serve more people and provide even more high-quality food.
Multicultural Refugee Coalition - $316,202

Multicultural Refugee Coalition operates New Leaf Agriculture. Refugees in Central Texas can work on the farm. The farm also grows food that refugees are familiar with in their home countries.
