The Probate Auditors are tasked with the statutorily mandated review of Annual and Final Accounts in probate and guardianship matters in order to protect the assets of the estate or ward.  These reviews include doing a comprehensive review of various financial statements and court orders to ensure executors/administrators and guardians are in compliance with court instructions and the Texas Estates Code. The Auditors review over 450 annual and final accounts each year. In addition, the Auditors’ other responsibilities include reviewing requests for reimbursements, additional compensation, reductions in bonds, and closing estates.

The Auditors begin reviewing Accountings and reimbursement requests once all of the necessary backup documents are received. Delays in the delivery of those backup documents can slow down the turnaround time in approving those requests, which can lead to additional delays in getting letters of guardianship renewed.

Auditor’s Review Process

Accountings and reimbursements are reviewed in the order that all completed backup documents are received. Delays in the delivery of the documents can have an impact on the completion and renewal of letters. Please refer to the Travis County Probate Courts Administrative Orders Regarding the Filing of Annual and Final Accounts

We’re excited to announce that, moving forward, reports highlighting cases with missing information or discrepancies will be published online. This initiative is aimed at ensuring transparency and helping us to efficiently address any gaps or issues in the audit of annual and final accountings. By sharing these reports, we aim to work together and ensure that all necessary documents are provided to expedite each case's audit. If your case appears on this list, please submit the missing information or resolve any discrepancies as soon as possible.

  • Cases with Missing Information - report coming soon
If a case appears on this report, the accountings have been submitted to the Court, but backup documentation is missing and needed to complete the review. The Probate Auditors have reached out and are awaiting the required information to proceed with the audit.

  • Audit Discrepancies - report coming soon
Accountings under review with discrepancies. If a case is listed on this report, the Probate Auditors have reached out and need document(s) or additional information to resolve the discrepancy.

Reports will be updated biweekly and will reflect the date of the last run.
