As the county has grown, impervious cover has exacerbated the polluting effects of storm water runoff. Impervious cover refers to land that is covered by pavement or compacted so that rainwater can no longer be absorbed directly into the ground.
Impervious cover allows more pollutants and silt to be picked up by storm water. It also increases the velocity and force of storm water, resulting in greater erosion, storm damage, streambed scouring, and flash flooding.
