Youth Misdemeanor I

Class Objectives

  • To understand what led them to break the law and the consequences of breaking the law
  • To understand the process of changing and avoiding negative behavior.
  • To discover how to improve self-esteem and increase the quality of life.
  • To learn how to solve personal problems and control stress.
  • To develop or establish goal-directed behavior.
  • To make a commitment to never knowingly commit another criminal offense.

Skills Taught

Solving personal problems, dealing with Peer Pressure, building Self-esteem, developing positive values, responsible, goal setting, respecting others' property, determining Wants vs. Needs, responsibility, law awareness and choice & consequences.

Juvenile Anger Management

Class Objectives

  • To understand how and why laws are made
  • To understand the process of changing negative behavior
  • To discover what attitudes and values are and how they affect behavior
  • To understand the importance of participation in groups and the community
  • To gain skills in critical thinking and decision making
  • To understand and practice problem solving; conflict management and mediation
  • To gain the respect of authority
  • To make a firm commitment to never knowingly repeat as a criminal offender

Skills Taught

How to identify basis for the law (principles, rights, etc.), how one can affect the laws and legal system, how to make use of one's rights and responsibilities under the law, identifying consequences to specific behaviors, identifying criminal behavior and alternative behavior, staying in control, communication, relationship building through respecting others' ideas and opinions and building self-esteem.

  • This class is for Juvenile with domestic violence issues or have a propensity for violence

Alcohol Education Program

Target Population

This class for minors (defined as under age 21) who attempts to purchase, possess, or consume alcohol or misrepresent one's age can be found guilty of Minor in Possession (MIP) according to the Alcohol Beverage Code 106.07111.

Minors who are charged with DUI are also required to take this class. The curriculum was specifically designed for a young age group of clients under age 21. TCCES offers the MIP class for minors that are under the age of 18.

Course Objectives

  • To present information to clients on the effects of alcohol upon behavior and upon the lives of persons who use alcohol.
  • To help clients identify their own drinking patterns or problems.
  • To educate clients about the laws relating to possession, consumption and purchase of alcoholic beverages and laws relating to minors driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • To assist clients in developing a plan to reduce the probability of involvement in future alcohol-related illegal behavior or detrimental activity.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
