Counseling & Education Services (CES) has conducted Family Violence Assessments for Travis County since the Family Violence Court #4 was created in 1999. Clients are mainly referred by Pretrial Services and CES conducts an assessment that includes a validated instrument which measures six domains of truthfulness, control, alcohol, drugs, violence and stress coping, an interview, and a review of their criminal history. CES licensed counselors evaluate for lethality, risk of reoccurrence and public safety to make a recommendation for the appropriate intervention, which may include alcohol/drug treatment and/or a Battering Intervention and Prevention Program (BIPP) for intimate partner violence or an Anger Management Program, for non-intimate partner violence.

CES, as well as, the Family Violence Court #4, and the BIPP providers are members of the Austin/Travis County Family Violence Task Force.
