We can only assist Travis County residents who meet our income eligibility requirements.

Timeline

We assist people in the order in which they apply. We will reach out to you as soon as your application comes up on the waitlist.

Cost

It is free to receive Social Work & Case Management Assistance from Travis County.

How to Apply

Gather required documents

You’re going to need the following documents:

  • Valid government issued photo ID (for example, driver’s license, State ID, military ID)
  • Proof of residence in Travis County
  • Current utility bill(s)
  • Proof of all income for the 30 days prior to applying for assistance for everyone 18 and older in the household (for example, pay checks, check stubs, Social Security award letter for the current year, unemployment, child support, worker’s compensation, etc.)

Submit an application

We do not accept applications sent through e-mail due to privacy issues.

There are several ways to apply for utility assistance:

Go to our Application Portal to start your pre-screening.

Once the pre-screening tool confirms your eligibility, you will be directed to complete the application.

Check the “Social Work and Case Management” option and select the areas you are interested in making goals.

Follow the instructions and fill out the application completely. Make sure you submit the application when you’re done.

Complete an intake appointment

Once we receive your application, we will reach out to you in the order you applied and invite you to complete an in-person or virtual intake.

Wait to hear back from us

Once you have completed the intake, you’ll be added to a waitlist.

Look out for communication from our staff via phone and email so that we can best assist you.

Get help from a social worker or case manager

As soon as your application comes up on the waitlist, you’ll be assigned to a social worker or supportive case manager.

When we have an opening, they will set up a meeting with you. They will work with you to complete an assessment, create a service plan, and determine your eligibility.

Need more help?

If you meet program eligibility guidelines, you may qualify for additional resources such as bus passes, rent and utility assistance referrals, and more.

Once you complete the previous steps, our staff will be able to guide you.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 12.7 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $34.51.
