Travis County is currently accepting PID Petitions to create new Public Improvement Districts (PIDs) under the guidance of the PID policy adopted by Travis County Commissioners Court on January 30, 2024 . The PID Petition process contains many detailed requirements. PID Petitioners should read the information presented here thoroughly before beginning the PID Petition process.

 PID Letter of Intent

Consistent with Chapter 481.009(a), the first step in creating a PID in Travis County is to send a Letter of Intent at least 45 days prior to submitting a PID Petition.

  • At least 45 days in advance of its intent to file a PID petition, a Petitioner shall notify in writing:
    • the County Judge,
    • the Commissioner of any precinct in which a proposed PID is located, and
    • the County Executive of Planning and Budget Office.
  • The mailing address of the County is P.O. Box 1748, Austin, TX, 78767 and physical address is 700 Lavaca, Ste. (varies by office), Austin, TX, 78701. In addition to the written notice, please send an electronic version of the Letter of Intent to: [email protected].

The Petitioner may be required to attend one or more pre-filing meetings or Commissioners Court presentations scheduled by the County.

PID Petition Form

An updated PID Petition form is under development that will satisfy the petition requirements found in Chapter 481.009(b) of the current PID Policy. This update will include fillable forms and downloadable documents that will be used as attachments to the PID Petition form.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
