Storm Water Videos Broadcast on Travis County's Cable Channel 17- May 2023 Schedule
The following information is presented for public education as part of Travis County's Storm Water Management Program (SWMP) required by the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
The following videos presented by the City of Austin and the North Central Texas Council of Governments will be broadcast during each time block listed below:
The video titled, ‘Inspector McCloud’, presented by the City of Laredo & the EPA (in both English & Spanish), is a cartoon featuring water quality themed characters that save the day by stopping pollution that is threatening the Rio Grande. The video covers general facts about the water system in terms of how pollution and runoff affects water quality. This video will be aired with 'H2O Jo Takes a Ride Through the Storm Drain', presented by the City of Boulder, CO. The city's 'Keep it Clean' campaign, designed to be used locally as well as statewide, is a coordinated program that reinforces common messages on ways to protect our water resources. They will be broadcast together on the following dates/ times:

The video titled, 'Texas, The State of Water', presented by Texas Parks & Wildlife, explores the present state of water resources in our state, takes an in-depth look at individual water systems such as the parched deserts in the west to the rich swamps of the east, and examines how these separate elements are really part of a complex, interconnected ecosystem. This video also raises awareness of the demands being placed on the aquifers, rivers, and bays of Texas. It will be broadcast on the following dates/ times:

The video titled, 'Texas, The State of Water: Finding a Balance', presented by TEXAS Parks & Wildlife, explores the growing demand for water, the impact that growth will have on Texas, and how the steps we take will impact Texas' people, wildlife, and economic vitality. It will be broadcast on the following dates/ times:

- May 12 - 8:00 am & 8:30 pm
- May 13 - 8:30 am
- May 14 - 3:00 pm
- May 15 - 11:00 am
The following special features, presented by TEXAS Parks & Wildlife, will be broadcast during each time block listed below:
1) Prescription to Burn- examining fire as an important tool to manage and restore natural landscapes.
2) Forests of the River Bottom- examination of how natural flooding cycles are an integral part of the bottomland hardwood forests.
3) Diggin' School- school children learn to construct a 'Wildscape' using native plants that require little watering.
4) Dealing with Drought- how Corpus Christi is working to secure water for the future.

The video titled, 'A Run Unto the Sea: The Adventures of the Abilene Boys', presented by the LCRA, is a 1 hour documentary hosted by Walter Cronkite on 3 retired men who recreated in 1990 a canoe trip they had taken down the Colorado River in the 1930's. It will be broadcast on the following dates/times:

- May 28 - 3:00 pm

The following videos, presented by the LCRA, the EPA, and the Weather Channel will be broadcast together during each time block listed below:
1) The Water Never Gets This High (LCRA)- a look at the Colorado River's historical tendency for catastrophic floods.
2) Preparing for Severe Weather (LCRA)- warns citizens to be prepared for severe weather, and offers tips on what to do during these events.
3) Three Ways to Prepare for a Flood (LCRA)- explains what the LCRA does, and what residents should do, during a flood event.
4) Ready For the Next Flood (LCRA)- a look at LCRA's flood-management operations.
5) Providing Water for Central Texas (LCRA)- explains how lakes in Austin get water, and how it is distributed.
6) After the Storm (EPA & The Weather Channel)- three case studies focus on the interconnections between our water supplies, water quality, and the economic vitality and quality of life in our communities.
